LAS FALLAS

Having said that I would steer clear of the Spanish economy, I felt that I should draw attention to this article recently bravely posted on www.eyeonspain.com

http://www.eyeonspain.com/spain-magazine/spain-economy-dead.aspx

I think it warrants reading – although it is pretty pessimistic.  I am much the same (as any reader of this Blog will know) when it comes to my views about the Spanish economy.  I have seen far too much ineptitude to feel a great deal of hope in the near term, when the lunatics who allowed the Spanish economic crisis to occur – still hold power.

However, I also well remember the 1990′s crisis in the UK, which came within a whisker of destroying my business at the time.  It was a truly horrible period, negative equity was rife, businesses were collapsing everywhere and there seemed no hope.  Of course, gradually, everyone adapted to the (painful) new conditions of life and the crisis duly limped on until (almost imperceptibly) it passed.

Obviously, things are not going to get better quickly in Spain.  Indeed, there are some pretty sound reasons for suspecting that the Spanish economy will worsen this year and that this will cause untold further distress to many more people.

However, these dreadful times do pass and solutions are (and will be) stumbled upon and Spain, like the rest of the world, will recover and better times will return.

On a very personal basis, I have to say that my own family and our plans and dreams have also been affected by the Spanish economic crisis.  Of course, they have!  But - are we still happy, overall, living in Spain?  Is it still delivering the quality of life we want?

It is.

In fact, frankly, I would much rather suffer rough times here than in the UK…

  1. Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Any way I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon.

  2. That post is the biggest load of trash I have ever read about Spain as I have said in the comments underneath. Point 6 for example comes from a totally discredited report that is something akin to Tobacco Science in the 50′s- 80′s. The guy needs to half fill his pint pot.

  3. Well, I did say that it was brave of Justin to publish it! In an odd way, I also think he was right to do so. Without doubt ,there is a good deal of scaremongering about the Spanish economy. However, in fairness, this is more than balanced by the white noise and obfuscation of Spanish government and property industry PR. What is the truth? As always, it is probably down to public perception of the situation and some degree of reality…
