Exactly where you stay when on your holidays in Spain is critical to the success of your holiday.  Obviously!  However, almost as important is the inherent nature of the beach apartment in Spain that you stay in.  If this is not right then it can really spoil your holidays – even if the surrounding area is exactly what you wanted.

So, what are the factors that you should look for before you book your beach apartment in Spain?

10 critical factors to look for in beach apartments in Spain

1.  Beach access.  If you are having a beach holiday in Spain then you want to be virtually on the beach, not 10 minutes walk away! So, always check with Google maps the exact situation.

2.  Apartment surroundings.  Double check the surroundings of your intended holiday apartment in Spain.  Is it just above a nightclub, casino, bar or restaurant etc.?  If you want to be able to rest at all then you need to make sure that your beach apartment in Spain is not at the centre of the nightlife or right beside a children’s play area!

3.  Balcony/terrace.  Does the apartment have a balcony or terrace that you can to sit out on – with views (not of a building site or the walls of other buildings!)?  Make sure that there is sufficient room on the balcony or terrace for all of you i.e. if there are four of you staying in the apartment then make sure that the balcony is big enough for all four of you to sit down (preferably around a table).

4.  Orientation of the apartment.  Double check which way the balcony or terrace of your proposed beach apartment in Spain is facing.  Will it receive sunlight – or be permanently in the shade?  Equally, do this for the swimming pool – if there is one in the complex.  Some pools receive no sunlight and, even in the middle of summer, can be too cold to swim in comfortably!

5.  Air conditioning.  This is vital during the hot summers of Spain and you should take it for granted that you will need air conditioning in every bedroom and the living room.

6.  Beach towels.  The last thing that you want to carry back and forth to your home country is bulky and heavy beach towels – so make sure they are supplied with the apartment.

7.  Fully fitted kitchen wih kettle!  The Spanish tend not to use kettles but this is something that is sorely missed by most North Europeans.  Equally, if you want to save money and not always eat out then you will need a half decent kitchen to service your cooking needs – particularly if you have a young family

8.  Drying area/clothes horse.  You will always need somewhere/something upon which to dry beachwear.  So, make sure that your intended holiday apartment in Spain has an adequate area or something upon which to hang clothes and towels – otherwise your whole apartment will quickly become like a washer woman’s store!

9.  Information.  Make sure that the apartment has plenty of information about the local area, amenities, activities and, of course, what to do/who to see in case of an emergency.  Also, always make sure that there is information about how to quickly and easily contact the apartment owner (or rentals supervisor), in case of problems with the apartment.  

10. Lift.  Always check to ensure that your holiday apartment in Spain has a lift.  Few things are more likely to drive you insane than finding that your apartment block (even if it is only 3-4 stories high) lacks a lift.

Finally, if possible, it is worth seeing if you can get Internet access from your beach apartment in Spain.  Wifi is becoming increasingly available and, for many people, is becoming an indispensible part of their daily lives.  So, at the very least always check where is the nearest Internet cafe or wifi connection.
