BEACH HOLIDAYS SPAIN

BEACH HOLIDAYS SPAIN

The cliche about location, location, location holds as true for beach holidays in Spain as it does for buying houses or establishing the exact whereabouts of business premises.

Indeed, get the location of your beach holiday in Spain wrong and you can guarantee that your dream holiday in Spain will be a disaster.  On the other hand, get it right – and your summer holiday will be memorable for its happiness and fun!

So, what are the factors that you should look for when looking at beach holidays in Spain?  What are the component parts that to make sure are in place before you book your holiday in Spain?

10 essential factors to choosing the right area for a successful beach holiday in Spain

1.  Bars and restaurants. A good selection of nearby (walking distance!) restaurants and bars with English language menus.

2.  Nightlife.  If you want nightlife, also check (Google maps/earth) how far it is to night clubs and casinos from your accommodation.  These should be within easy reach, not least because the drink driving laws in Spain are very strict – and they are enforced!

3.  Childcare.  Check to see if any form of secure child care is available.  If you want to enjoy Spain’s nightlife to the full and you have small children then this resouce can be invaluable.

4.  Shops, banks and a major supermarket.  Unless you intend eating out all the time (which can be expensive!) then you should ensure that there are a range of shops nearby (baker, butcher, pharmacy, general store).  Equally, check that a major supermarket is, at the very least, within easy driving distance (10 minutes).

5.  Good communications.  Check to see if there is a nearby rail link to the nearest major town or city.  This is useful for days away and avoids you having to drive through unfamiliar urban areas.  Equally, having your intended airport an easy one hour drive away is useful and avoids wasted time on unnecesary travel (particularly for short breaks away).

6.  Medical centre.  Always make sure that there is a medical centre nearby and that you know exactly where this is.  Always have travel insurance and/or your relevant inter EU medical paperwork.

7.  Activities.  Essential to any beach holiday in Spain is the easy ability to do some activities (wind surfing, canoeing, pedallos, para gliding, bike hire etc.).  Check to see that these are available and close by – do not take it for granted that every beach will have a full range of activities!.

8.  Day trips.  Check what day trips are available, their cost, where they go from and how long they take (all day/half a day etc.)  Almost everyone on a beach holiday in Spain needs a day or two away from the beach.

9.  Internet access/Wifi.  Make sure that you check exactly where you can obtain Internet access or Wifi.  This needs to be within very easy walkning distance of your accommodation.

10. Safety.  This is of paramount importance, of course, so do some research on the Internet to check that the area you intend going to is safe and to see whether there is anything of which you should be aware i.e. beach vendors or particular clubs etc. where there have been past problems.
