Cheap holidays in Spain

Gandia beach in August - perfection!

Did you know that as a resident of Spain that you could be eligible for cheap holidays in Spain?  These are available to all nationalities but you must come within certain parameters including being over 65 or a widow of 55 (or over) receiving a widow’s pension or over 60 but on an early retirement pension or government invalidity pension.

Does that sound like you?

Well, if it does, and you are resident in Spain, then you may want to find out more and apply for one of the Spanish government subsidised holidays that are on offer.  These can be seen on the Imerso web site at www.imerso.es or in English at www.mundosenior.es

Cheap holidays in Spain for pensioners resident in Spain have been subsidised by the Spanish government for the past 25 years and have been hugely popular.  Indeed, some 1,200,000 holidays were subsidised by the Spanish government last year.

In fact, the whole concept seems rather fine.  These cheap holidays in Spain are restricted to October to July and therefore have a purpose in helping the tourist industry in Spain during the low season.  This, obviously, provides some economic help when most needed.  However, the real benefit is to the elderly who are given the chance to go on holidays that they would otherwise have found impossible.  It is hard not to consider this as socially very desirable.

Imerso’s cheap holidays in Spain, interestingly, are not just for a couple of days.  They go from nature trips of 5 days through to coastal holidays of 6, 8, 10, 15 or 29 days and can include full board, transport to and from the destination, medical assistance and insurance.  Incredibly, you can also take a partner – who is not retired and does not come within the parameters of Imerso.

Of course, applying for Spanish government subsidised holidays may, understandably, seem rather daunting if you are a foreigner resident in Spain.  However, help is at hand from an unexpected direction!

Ábaco Asesores is a firm of lawyers and tax advisors in Torrevieja with a very strong English speaking bias – who, for free(!), will help you to apply for an Imerso holiday.  They will, also, of course, help you apply for your residency in Spain, in case you have not done so, thus making you eligible as a resident of Spain for the holidays.

Needless to say, the present economic crisis may well mean that there will be a reduction in the number of cheap holidays in Spain on offer subsidised by the Spanish government.  So, if you want to take advantage of this wonderful scheme then I would suggest that you apply as soon as possible.
