Costas

The Spanish Costas
One of the first words that is associated with Spain is the word “Costa”, meaning “coast” – simply because most holidaymakers who come to Spain have been lured by the thought of the perfect weather and beautiful beaches that are to be found all along the Spanish coastline.

The coastline itself stretches for approximately 4,000 kilometres, and faces either the Atlantic Ocean in the north, or the Mediterranean Sea along the east and south. The main “costas” that attract the foreign holidaymaker, however, are (starting at the French border north of Barcelona) the Costa Brava, descending down to the Costa del Azahar, then down further to the Costa Blanca and finishing with the Costa del Sol along the south Mediterranean coast. Smaller “costas” are to be found interspersed along these well-known areas, and sometimes almost form sub-sections of them, but the Costa del Sol is the one that attracts the most holidaymakers in the summer season.
Some of the very best of the beaches to be found anywhere in the Mediterranean area are on the Spanish costas, and, with the many other attractions that are to be found nearby and inland from them (either those of natural beauty or man-made facilities) all combine to form the perfect recipe for an unforgettable Spanish holiday.
