Costa Brava

The Costa Brava is the name that probably comes to most people’s minds first if they are asked to name one of the Spanish costas, but many people have only a hazy idea of where the Costa Brava is actually located – and probably don’t realise that it is as far to the north as it actually is. The Costa Brava runs from the border with France down as far as Barcelona – and is not an area roughly halfway down the Mediterranean coast, as many mistakenly believe.

One of the huge attractions of the Costa Brava (or “Wild Coast” as it translates from Catalan) is its proximity to Barcelona – the capital city of Catalunya – thus making it very easy to combine a beach holiday with visits to one of the most attractive cities in Europe. It is an area of great natural beauty and the beaches are amongst the best to be found anywhere, although this obviously can have the drawback of large crowds in the height of the holiday season. Well-known resorts such as Tossa de Mar, Lloret de Mar and Calella have been attracting sun-seekers for many years, and lie within easy reach of Girona airport as well benefiting from good road links to Barcelona itself.

Accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets can be found in the Costa Brava area, and whether you are looking for a short, budget break or a longer holiday with a touch of luxury the Costa Brava is sure to have something to suit everyone.
