Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol
The Costa del Sol attracts the most visitor numbers of any of the Spanish costas, and lies along Spain’s southern coast, facing across to the coast of North Africa. The area has the reputation of being one of the most glamorous and fashionable holiday destinations in Europe, with yachting marinas, golf courses and beautiful sandy beaches. Situated in the province of Andalucia, it includes resorts such as the more brash and mass-market Torremolinos, in contrast to the chic and sophisticated Marbella and the well-known beaches at Estepona and Fuengirola.
There is plenty to do and see all along the Costa del Sol, with such varied attractions as the lovely and romantic town of Ronda, the Aquarium and Crocodile Park in Puerto Banus, as well as the Picasso Museum and daily cruises past Gibraltar and on to Tangier in Morocco. Nightlife is in no short supply either, and there is a huge choice of bars, clubs and restaurants all along the coastal area, particularly in Marbella.
With Málaga airport serving the region – it is Spain’s third largest airport – it is quick and easy to reach the Costa del Sol from practically every part of Europe, and once here, the road infrastructure is more than capable of dealing with the large visitor numbers in the busy summer season. If it is a combination of fun, sun, glamour and sophistication that you are seeking on your summer vacation this year, then the Costa del Sol could just be the destination for you to choose.
